Larijani: West’s demands unacceptable; if a reasonable proposal is offered, we will accept it
Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said Western powers are making “unacceptable demands,” stressing that Tehran would accept a proposal only if it is reasonable, fair, and guarantees Iran’s national interests.

Tehran - BORNA - Larijani made the remarks on Tuesday in a meeting with members of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, where he praised their role during the recent 12-day war. “By keeping factories operational, you have contributed greatly to the nation’s resilience,” he said.

Larijani, who also serves as an adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, described recent measures by the Islamic Republic as efforts toward national development. He welcomed a proposal to establish a mechanism linking the Chamber of Commerce with the SNSC Secretariat so that the views of the private sector can be factored into national security decision-making. He further stressed that the private sector’s role in foreign negotiations is beneficial and that civil institutions like the Chamber must operate under law, without excessive security oversight.

France sent message through IAEA chief

Addressing the ongoing snapback dispute, Larijani said Iran has exhausted all avenues for negotiation, but Western parties have responded with obstruction. “France conveyed through the IAEA director general that if Iran reached a specific arrangement with the Agency, Paris would withdraw the snapback request. We finalized such an arrangement, and our foreign minister signed it in Cairo, taking into account security concerns after the bombing of nuclear sites. Yet they did not honor their word,” he said.

He added that subsequent proposals from Europe and Russia—both allowing six months for negotiations—were accepted by Iran with conditions, but again, the Europeans reneged and pursued snapback at the Security Council.

“Condition no person of dignity could ever accept”

Larijani pointed to two key issues. “In the Americans’ initial draft, they demanded Iran reduce missile ranges to under 500 kilometers—something no person of dignity would accept. Is this demand acceptable for any Iranian? This is precisely the problem: they insist on unacceptable conditions.”

He added: “The JCPOA had a built-in mechanism for parties to respond if obligations were violated. Who broke their commitments? First the U.S. withdrew, then Europe failed to comply, and afterward they even resorted to bombing. Who then has the right to object?”

The SNSC chief said the West’s problem is its abuse of contractual texts. “Iran has never shied away from negotiations—even under bombardment we kept negotiating. But while they speak of talks, their actions pursue other goals. If a reasonable and fair proposal comes with guarantees for Iran’s interests, we will accept it. But we remain committed to defending our national interests and security, just as we stood firm on our missile capabilities.”

Iran's path opposed to Israeli destabilization

Larijani concluded by stressing that Iran’s course is fundamentally opposed to Israel’s destabilizing policies. “We welcome political, economic, and security interactions with all regional states, and we will continue to pursue this path,” he said.
