Pezeshkian: Iran ready for transparency
President Masoud Pezeshkian told European Council chief António Costa in New York that Iran seeks constructive ties and rejects nuclear weapons claims, while condemning Israel for obstructing peace.

Tehran - BORNA - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a meeting with European Council President António Costa on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to national unity, constructive international engagement, and transparency on its peaceful nuclear program, while condemning Israeli obstructionism and double standards by world powers.

On Wednesday afternoon local time in New York, President Pezeshkian said his administration’s guiding principle since the election campaign has been to strengthen national consensus at home and to expand constructive relations with the world, including European countries, based on mutual respect and shared interests.

He stressed that while Iran has consistently sought dialogue and solutions to avoid conflict, “from the very first day of my government’s work, the Zionist regime has created obstacles on this path, and continues to do so.”

Rejecting allegations regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Pezeshkian stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has firmly and repeatedly declared that it has never sought nuclear weapons. We are ready to cooperate transparently to prove the falsity of these claims. Those responsible for the current situation are the ones who violated their commitments and withdrew from the JCPOA.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president criticized global silence over Israeli actions while double standards are applied against Iran, saying, “While world powers stir uproar over a minor issue in Iran, they remain silent in the face of Israel crossing every red line. Has Iran ever committed assassinations or terrorism abroad? On the contrary, we are among the biggest victims of terrorism.”

For his part, European Council President António Costa underlined the EU’s interest in strengthening engagement with Iran, stressing that dialogue and understanding are the best ways to resolve challenges.

He also reiterated the EU’s condemnation of Israeli actions and said that establishing an independent Palestinian state is the most effective path to resolving the Palestinian question, noting that recognition of Palestine by a majority of European states is a step in that direction.
