Lavrov: Western Attempts to Reinstate Sanctions on Iran Are “Repulsive”
Tehran - BORNA - Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov strongly condemned Western efforts to reimpose sanctions on Iran, describing them as “repulsive” and part of a deliberate strategy to block dialogue and cooperation between Tehran and Washington.
According to TASS, Lavrov said on Wednesday that Western nations are intentionally taking steps to prevent any meaningful talks between Iran and the United States and to obstruct the normalization of Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“The Iranians remain open to dialogue,” Lavrov said. “The West is deliberately doing everything possible to ensure that such negotiations with the United States do not take place — even though Iran has always been ready for them — and to prevent the resumption of normal cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.”
He further remarked that Western powers appear to be intentionally provoking a major crisis. “It seems that some of them actually want this to happen,” the Russian foreign minister added.
Lavrov also condemned Western efforts to restore United Nations sanctions on Iran through the so-called snapback mechanism, saying such actions are “repulsive and politically motivated.”
