Iran stresses need for trust, solidarity among world’s nations
Tehran - BORNA - Pezeshkian made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with Turkmenistan’s National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat before attending the International Conference on Peace and Trust.
The Iranian president thanked Berdimuhamedov for holding the conference, saying it addresses one of the fundamental needs of the present time.
“Today’s world, more than ever before, is in need of building trust, peace, and solidarity among nations, and the initiative you have pioneered reflects a profound understanding of the realities of our time,” he added.
He also expressed hope that Turkmenistan’s constructive approach will extend to the region and beyond as a bid to promote regional peace and security.
He further emphasized the importance of enhancing communications and cooperation between the two neighboring states.
The Turkmen leader, for his part, acknowledged Tehran’s strong support for his country’s initiatives and expressed gratitude to Iran for participating in the International Forum of Peace and Trust.
Meanwhile, he noted that the complexity of the current global situation requires increased dialogue and consultations.
Praising excellent Turkmenistan-Iran relations, particularly in trade, culture, and humanitarian efforts, Berdimuhamedov hoped for closer bilateral ties in the future.
Iran’s president met with his Turkmen counterpart on Tuesday, highlighting the long-standing ties and deep connections between the neighboring nations. “Our countries share a history of close relations, and this proximity, according to the vision of our leaders, is founded on equality, friendship, peace, and security,” he said.
Separately, in his meeting with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimukhamedov, Pezeshkian stressed the importance of mutual trust as the foundation for a stable and peaceful bilateral relationship.
He called for practical steps to strengthen cooperation, noting that key agreements in the energy, transport, and trade sectors remain partially unimplemented due to lingering challenges.
“Full implementation of past agreements requires your guidance and follow-up to ensure shared benefits for both nations,” Pezeshkian added.
President Berdimukhamedov expressed satisfaction at the growing warmth in Tehran-Ashgabat relations. He highlighted Turkmenistan’s initiative to host a peace summit, bringing together leaders from UN member states, as a demonstration of the country’s commitment to regional stability.
Berdimukhamedov also underscored deep cultural and civilizational ties and called for expanded collaboration in economic, political, and Islamic world affairs. “Iran is advancing rapidly, and we are keen to exchange experiences across various fields,” he said.
The two presidents agreed to pursue practical cooperation and enhance dialogue, signaling a shared commitment to long-term stability and development.
‘Iran, Myanmar have potential for deeper ties’
Additionally on Friday, Pezeshkian met with Prime Minister of Myanmar Nyo Saw in Ashgabat.
The Iranian president referred to the historical background of relations between the two nations and called for boosting cooperation, particularly in the fields of culture and commerce.
He also highlighted the potential for deeper ties with Myanmar, urging experts from both countries to explore ways to that aim.
Pezeshkian further voiced Iran’s keenness to bolster its relations with ASEAN member states. He said Iran’s acceptance as a dialogue partner with the regional bloc could significantly strengthen the Islamic Republic’s cooperation with East Asian countries, including Myanmar.
The Myanmar prime minister, in turn, expressed his willingness to develop diplomatic ties with Iran established in 1968.
He further said that his country wants to expand cooperation with Iran, especially in the areas of oil imports and oil extraction technology, as well as the exports of leather and rubber.
Myanmar, he pointed out, is keen to increase coordination with Iran within the framework of international cooperation, particularly in countering unilateral coercive measures.
He also invited Iran to participate as an observer in the upcoming general elections in Myanmar.
