Reuters: US Threatens Ukraine with Cut in Intelligence and Arms Aid
Tehran - BORNA - The Reuters news agency, citing two informed sources, stated that the United States has threatened to cut off intelligence and arms assistance to Ukraine with the goal of forcing it to accept the new US-brokered peace deal.
According to the agency, the informed sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that Washington has increased its pressure on Kyiv for this latest round of peace talks compared to previous rounds, demanding that Ukraine sign the framework for the newly proposed agreement by next Thursday.
One of the sources stated: "They want to stop the war, and they want Ukraine to pay the price for it."
Reuters reported that Washington has presented Ukraine with a 28-point peace plan which includes some of Russia's main demands for accepting a peace deal, including that Kyiv cede lost territories, reduce the size of its army, and be banned from joining the NATO alliance.
On Thursday, a delegation of senior US military officials met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Ukraine to discuss the path to peace.
The US Ambassador to Ukraine and the US Army Public Affairs Officer, who traveled with the delegation, described the meeting as a success and said Washington was seeking an "aggressive timeline" for signing a document between the US and Ukraine.
