Axios: Meeting on Trump's Peace Plan for Ukraine to Be Held in Geneva
The American media outlet reported that the United States, Ukraine, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom will negotiate on the new US peace plan for Ukraine in Geneva on Sunday.

Tehran - BORNA - The 28-point peace plan by US President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine has generated significant controversy since last week. While US officials are keen to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into accepting the agreement, some Ukrainian and European officials hold a different position, believing the peace plan could be more beneficial to Russia.

The news site Axios reported, citing three informed sources: "The United States, Ukraine, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom are expected to negotiate on the new US peace plan to end the war in Ukraine in Geneva on Sunday."

US Vice President J.D. Vance held a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday to discuss the plan. They agreed to hold in-person negotiations early this week among the United States, Ukraine, and European countries.

A US official and an informed source said: "The US team is expected to be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the team will include Steve Witkoff, the Presidential Special Envoy, and Dan Driscoll, the Secretary of the Army, who met with Zelensky in Kyiv on Thursday and presented the US plan to him."

The US official told Axios: "We continue to work with the Ukrainians to make this the best deal for them. We can't speak to their position, but this agreement is, as it always has been, a collaboration between the US, the Ukrainians, and the Russians."

He added: "The details of the agreement may change compared to the original version of the US peace plan. That's why we are negotiating, and that is literally the definition of negotiation."

On the Ukrainian side, President Zelensky has appointed his Chief of Staff, Andriy Yermak, to head the negotiating team. Ukraine's Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, who recently negotiated with Trump's advisors Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner regarding the plan, will also be part of the Ukrainian delegation.

Throughout Saturday, Volodymyr Zelensky held several calls with European leaders, briefing them on Ukraine's position regarding the plan.

A Ukrainian official admitted after the calls: "All European leaders are shocked by the peace plan but support it."

Axios added in the report: "The national security advisors of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom will also participate in the negotiations."

Recently, Western media reported on Donald Trump's 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine, an agreement whose terms have been scrutinized by Volodymyr Zelensky and even Europe and have not been well received. This is because, in addition to ceding some Ukrainian territories to Russia, it apparently includes the lifting of sanctions against Russia.

The news outlet Bloomberg previously reported, citing an anonymous informed source: "Donald Trump's 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine includes, among other things, the lifting of sanctions against Russia." However, no further information has been released regarding which sanctions against Russia would be lifted.

Donald Trump's 28-point plan calls for Russia to gain full control over Luhansk and Donetsk (collectively known as Donbas), even though Ukraine still apparently controls about 12% of the Donbas territory.
