Iran, Russia stress implementation of strategic partnership pact
President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed Iran’s resolve to implement an agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Tehran - BORNA - Pezeshkian made the remarks on Friday on the sidelines of the International Conference on Peace and Trust in Turkmenistan’s capital of Ashgabat.

The Iranian president expressed his satisfaction with developing Tehran-Moscow relations and appreciated Russia’s support for the Islamic Republic in international forums.

Referring to the long-term strategic partnership treaty signed by Iran and Russia on January 17, 2025, he said, “We are determined to implement the agreement and put it into operation.”

“Joint cooperation, particularly in the fields of power generation, transportation, and transit corridors, is currently being pursued. Regarding the [North-South] corridor, Iran will fully prepare the grounds for the project’s implementation by the end of the year,” he added.

Pezeshkian also described agricultural cooperation between the two countries as highly beneficial, saying the model could be expanded to other sectors as well.

“In order to confront unilateralism, we have no alternative but joint cooperation, particularly through international and regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS,” he emphasized.

Putin, for his part, said that Russia-Iran relations are “developing very positively.”

He further noted that the two countries are discussing ties in the field of gas and electricity, and working closely on Iran’s nuclear issue.

Moscow and Tehran are cooperating in various areas, including the Bushehr nuclear power plant and infrastructure development projects, such as the North-South corridor, he added.

Trade between Russia and Iran increased by 13 percent last year, and by another 8 percent this year, Putin announced.

Iran and Russia are both subject to illegal Western sanctions. They have over the past years strengthened their relations in various fields.

Russia has repeatedly defended Iran’s right to a peaceful nuclear energy program.
