Lukashenko Warns US Against Venezuela Intervention: It Could Become 'Another Vietnam'
Belarus's Permanent Representative to the UN said Alexander Lukashenko warned the US envoy that any potential US military action against Venezuela could become a repeat of the Vietnam War for America.

Tehran - BORNA - Valentin Rybakov, Belarus's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, speaking on Saturday, relayed comments made by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, emphasizing: "The Belarusian President spoke very frankly to the American delegation on this matter and warned that the US entering such a war would simply mean a repeat of Vietnam for the United States, which is of no interest or necessity to anyone—neither for the American people, nor for the people of Venezuela, and certainly not for the entire international community."

Valentin Rybakov also stated that the United States is not attempting to influence relations between Minsk and Moscow.

Following the US-Belarus talks in Minsk, he told the "First Information" TV channel: "I have often had to answer the question of whether the Americans are trying to influence our relations with Russia in any way. I can assure you that this issue was never raised—I was present at many of these negotiations—it was never raised. There was never an attempt to set us against Russia, to cause discord between us, and so forth."

Previously, the US Special Envoy for Belarus had announced that Washington intended to lift some trade sanctions against the country, including restrictions on Belarusian potash exports.

Subsequently, the Belarusian Presidential Office announced that the country's president had pardoned 123 foreign nationals as part of the agreements reached with the US President and upon his request.
