Russia: Attacks on Iran Threaten Nuclear Non-Proliferation
Tehran - BORNA - Sergey Ryabkov, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, addressed the Trialogue International Club on Monday evening, stating: "The aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran has clearly threatened the nuclear non-proliferation regime."
As reported by TASS news agency, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister noted that Russia remains fully committed to the national moratorium on nuclear testing. "Russia, for its part, is fully committed to the national moratorium on nuclear tests announced in 1990. However, if the United States or other countries conduct such tests, Russia's response will undoubtedly be sufficient and proportionate," Ryabkov said.
Ryabkov also emphasized that a growing number of U.S. allies in Europe are acknowledging the development of their own nuclear capabilities, a trend he described as "provocative and destructive" to the non-proliferation regime.
He added: "The latest developments, particularly the increasing number of non-nuclear U.S. allies entertaining the idea of acquiring their own nuclear capabilities, are a cause for serious concern. This is highly provocative and destructive for the nuclear non-proliferation regime, especially since this is occurring without any overt protest from Washington or the European capitals of nuclear-armed states."
