Trump: I Was Likely the Target; Attack Unrelated to Iran War
U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the media on Sunday following a shooting at a White House Correspondents' Association event, stating he believes he was the intended target but does not view the incident as linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Tehran - BORNA - During a press conference held after the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, Trump remarked: "This was unexpected... an armed man with multiple weapons stormed a checkpoint and was neutralized by the brave members of the Secret Service."

He continued: "An officer was shot from a very close range, but he was wearing a bulletproof vest... He is doing well. The vest did its job."

Trump confirmed that the gunman has been apprehended, noting: "The man has been arrested. They are going to his apartment now. I think he lives in California."

Reflecting on the nature of the incident, the U.S. President added: "When these things happen, it’s shocking. These things happen to me quite a bit." When asked by a reporter why such events frequently occur around him, Trump responded: "I’ve studied assassinations. They always go after the most influential people, like Abraham Lincoln. They don’t go after people who haven't done much. We have done a lot."

When asked if he believed he was the specific target of the attack, Trump replied: "I guess so. These people are crazy. You can never be sure."

Crucially, in response to questions regarding whether the attack was connected to the war with Iran, the President stated: "I don't think so."

The incident occurred amidst heightened regional tensions, but the President's initial assessment suggests a domestic origin for the security breach.
