Pakistan: We are ready to host new round of Tehran-Washington talks
Tehran - BORNA - The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated in a message on Thursday, referring to speculations regarding the possibility of signing an agreement between Iran and the U.S., that Islamabad, as a mediator, will not jeopardize the trust of either side by disclosing details.
According to Al Jazeera, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry also stated that it has no information regarding the location of the signing of a potential agreement between Tehran and Washington, but added: "If this occurs in Islamabad, it would be an honor for Pakistan."
Al Arabiya also reported that Pakistan emphasized its commitment to regional peace and stability.
The spokesperson for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated today: "We predict that an agreement between Iran and the United States will be reached sooner or later."
"Pakistan remains optimistic about the progress of negotiations between Iran and the U.S. and reaching a final agreement. Pakistan is ready to host a new round of Iran-U.S. talks," the spokesperson added.
Previously, the Pakistani Foreign Minister had stated that the country is working as a mediator to facilitate negotiations between Iran and the United States.
According to Al Arabiya, Mohammad Ishaq Dar remarked on Wednesday evening: "We are making every effort to hold direct negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. We succeeded in extending the ceasefire and stopped the daily killing of hundreds of people."
Following efforts to establish a ceasefire between Iran and the U.S., which was announced on the morning of April 8, Islamabad hosted the first round of negotiations between high-ranking Iranian and American delegations in the Pakistani capital. However, according to the Iranian side, despite some understandings reached, the gap between viewpoints on certain major issues remained unresolved.
Although officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran have declared that they will not participate in negotiations under a climate of threats and while the illegal U.S. naval blockade remains in place, the exchange of messages and indirect contacts through Pakistan continues between the two sides.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, emphasizing that the concept of "negotiation" entails a genuine and sincere effort for dialogue with the aim of resolving disputes, stated that "negotiation" requires seriousness and good faith.
Esmaeil Baghaei wrote on the X platform: "The concept of 'negotiation' entails a genuine and sincere effort to engage in dialogue with the aim of resolving a dispute (International Court of Justice, Judgment of 1 April 2011). Therefore, 'negotiation' requires seriousness and good faith. Negotiation is neither 'contention,' nor 'dictation,' nor 'extortion,' nor 'coercion'."
Speaking to local media on Wednesday afternoon regarding speculations over a potential agreement with the U.S., Baghaei stated: "The U.S. plan and proposal are still being reviewed by Iran, and Iran will convey its views to the Pakistani side after concluding its assessment."
