Iran deploys light submarines in Strait of Hormuz to intercept hostile vessels
Tehran - BORNA - Rear Admiral Shahram Irani stated that these light submarines, designed to meet modern threats and operational requirements, are currently positioned in a "finger-on-the-trigger" alert status. He highlighted that a primary capability of these vessels is their "seabed-sitting" feature, which allows them to remain submerged and stationary on the ocean floor for extended periods to monitor and, if necessary, destroy intruding targets.
"These submarines, widely known among our naval officers as the 'Dolphins of the Persian Gulf,' are an essential part of our maritime authority," Admiral Irani remarked. He noted that the fleet recently surfaced in the Strait of Hormuz during a tactical operation named after the martyrs of the *Dena* destroyer to demonstrate Iran’s defensive power before returning to the depths to resume their missions.
The deployment comes as part of Iran’s broader strategy to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz while maintaining a high level of preparedness against any foreign aggression in the region's territorial waters.
