Iran snooker player defeats Chinese rival at Asian Championship
Tehran - BORNA - The Asian Snooker Championship is being held in Thailand, with two Iranian national team players, Amir Sarkhosh and Ali Gharahgozlou, participating in the prestigious event.
The tournament features 64 athletes in each category, organized into two separate knockout brackets, giving the Iranian cueists two distinct opportunities to compete for a spot on the professional world tour. According to the tournament format, to secure a professional tour card, an athlete must reach the final match in either of the two brackets to earn qualification for the World Snooker Tour (WST).
In the first bracket of the competitions, Ali Gharahgozlou lost his opening match to a rival from China and was subsequently eliminated from the first bracket.
Meanwhile, Amir Sarkhosh, Iran's other snooker representative, faced India's Sahil Rana in his first match and defeated him with a decisive 4-0 victory.
On Saturday, May 16, Sarkhosh went on to face a Chinese opponent in his second match, emerging victorious with a 4-2 scoreline. He is scheduled to play his third match against another competitor from China tomorrow, Sunday, May 17, at 13:00 Thailand time.
According to the announced schedule, if the Iranian representatives fail to secure their professional tour cards in the first bracket, they will pursue their chances to achieve this goal in the second bracket.
Amir Sarkhosh, who has a history of competing on the professional world tour, is aiming to make a successful comeback to the elite global level of professional snooker in this edition of the tournament.
