Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir arrives in Tehran
Tehran - BORNA - Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, arrived in Tehran on Friday afternoon to hold further consultations as a mediator between Tehran and Washington, following the ongoing exchange of messages and proposals.
It is worth noting that within this framework, Pakistani Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi has been in Tehran since Wednesday of this week. Naqvi had also traveled to Tehran on Saturday of this week, pursuing negotiations with Iranian officials including the President, the Parliament Speaker, the Foreign Minister, and the Interior Minister. Following the Pakistani Interior Minister's second trip to Iran, some news reports indicated that the sides had come very close to a "framework" for an agreement, which heightened the likelihood of the Pakistani Army Chief's presence in Tehran on Thursday to finalize the text.
Concurrently, a definitive and final understanding on several issues—particularly nuclear materials, the recognition of uranium enrichment, and the management of the Strait of Hormuz—has still not been fully achieved.
Furthermore, certain officials emphasized that the presence of Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir does not necessarily signify that an understanding on the initial framework is definitive.
Iran demands that issues such as ending current regional tensions, unfreezing Iranian assets blocked abroad, and ensuring the security of Iranian vessels in international waterways be positioned as the primary pillars of these negotiations.
