Iran Clinches Early Asian Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship, Eyes Seventh Gold
Tehran - BORNA - During the final day of the competitions featuring the remaining three weight categories, Iranian wrestlers put on a strong display to seal the team's overall victory, built upon the foundation of six gold medals captured on the opening day of the tournament.
In the 65 kg weight category, Hamed Dehghanzadeh opened his campaign with a decisive 8-0 victory over Japan’s Yuki Ueda. He sustained his momentum in the subsequent round by defeating South Korea’s Geon-hyeon Nam with a score of 7-1 to secure his place in the semifinals. In the semifinal stage, Dehghanzadeh suffered a 10-4 defeat against Miras Makhambet of Kazakhstan, which moved him to the bronze-medal match, where he is scheduled to wrestle China’s Yongqi Chiu.
The 71 kg division saw an exceptional performance by Esmaeil Zaherdoust, who launched his tournament with a commanding 10-0 victory over Hiroto Kadohira of Japan. Zaherdoust maintained his elite form in the next round by overcoming Uzbekistan's Kodirjan Fasilov with an 11-2 scoreline to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinal bout, the Iranian wrestler swiftly defeated Timur Kusainov of Kazakhstan 8-0 to book his spot in the finals, where he will wrestle Kyrgyzstan’s Bayel Nuraliev for the gold medal.
In the 80 kg weight class, Mehdi Gholamiyan suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat against China’s Yujian Cheng in the opening round. However, following the Chinese wrestler's successful advancement to the final match, Gholamiyan was drawn into the repechage bracket. He capitalized on the opportunity by securing a 6-2 victory over Tajikistan’s Muhammad Zaynidinzod, earning a spot in the bronze-medal match against Alinur Tulyugali of Kazakhstan.
With six gold medals already secured from the opening day of the event and three Iranian representatives successfully advancing to the medal rounds on the final day, Team Iran has mathematically sealed its early championship title at the Asian Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship.
