First coach resigns after World Cup elimination
The 62-year-old head coach of Scotland's national team resigned after his side was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup.

Tehran - BORNA - Scotland, placed in Group C alongside Haiti, Morocco, and Brazil, defeated Haiti 1-0 in their opening match but then suffered defeats to Morocco and Brazil, failing to advance to the round of 32.

Steve Clarke, Scotland's head coach, has now stepped down from his position. The Scottish Football Association confirmed the news.

Clarke had been in charge of the national team since 2019. He guided Scotland to Euro 2020 (their first major tournament in 23 years, though they failed to advance from the group) and Euro 2024, as well as leading Scotland to the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

In an emotional statement, Clarke said: "The hardest part of this farewell is my players. Without them, the memories we built since 2019 would not exist. They deserve all the praise and admiration. It has been a great honor for me to be their head coach, and I wish my successor every success."
