Reuters claims indirect Iran-US technical talks underway in Doha
Tehran - BORNA - The source said that US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Qatar's Prime Minister on Tuesday to lay the groundwork for today's technical sessions, but are not themselves participating in the talks.
The source added that the indirect technical negotiations between the Iranian and American sides are ongoing in Doha, with Qatar and Pakistan acting as mediators.
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance claimed on Tuesday evening that technical negotiations with the Iranian side on a peace agreement were underway.
In this regard, Esmail Baghaei, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, said: "We have no negotiation plans with the American side in the coming days, at any level. The dispatch of an expert delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Qatar, headed by Mr. Gharibabadi, is in line with following up on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding's provisions."
Baghaei added: "Since the memorandum was signed on June 18 until today, we have used every opportunity to ensure the implementation of various parts of this memorandum. From Clause 1, which oversees the end of war on all fronts, including Lebanon, to the clauses related to ending the naval blockade and issues related to the release of Iran's blocked or restricted assets. These matters require continuous follow-up, and the meeting taking place in Doha will be in this context and with the Qatari side."
In response to a question about whether Lebanon would also be discussed in this meeting, Baghaei said: "We will use every opportunity to review all parts of the memorandum. In the Doha meeting, we will mainly focus on issues related to access to Iran's released assets, but other parts of the memorandum will also certainly be reviewed."
