Hamas: Disarmament is impossible without the establishment of a Palestinian state and national army
The spokesperson for the Hamas movement emphasized that the group’s agreement to the U.S.-proposed ceasefire plan for Gaza does not include disarmament, stressing that such a move would only be possible after the creation of an independent Palestinian state with its own national army.

Tehran - BORNA - Walid Kilani, Hamas’ spokesperson in Lebanon, said that the movement’s approval of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza does not entail surrendering the weapons of the resistance, asserting that such a condition could only be considered once a fully sovereign Palestinian state with a national army capable of defending its people has been established.

In an exclusive interview with Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency, Kilani stated: “Hamas has never considered giving up its weapons, nor has it tied its consent to any agreement to such a condition. Our position is clear and firm: as long as the occupation continues, so will the resistance. Disarmament can only happen once a complete Palestinian state with full decision-making powers and a capable army exists to protect the Palestinian people.”

The Hamas spokesperson noted that the main point in the U.S. president’s proposal concerns a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, while the Palestinian resistance remains open to discussions on other conditions.

Kilani added: “The main focus of the movement is the ceasefire, and the other details can be discussed and agreed upon. The agreement also includes a clause prohibiting the displacement of Palestinians from their lands.”

He stressed that all Palestinians—not just Hamas—must decide the future of Palestine.

“The agreement on certain aspects of Washington’s plan has only been reached to the extent that it aligns with the aspirations of the Palestinian people, without compromising fundamental principles—particularly regarding disarmament and the control of Gaza. Decisions on these matters belong to the entire Palestinian nation, not solely to the Hamas movement,” Kilani concluded.
