Araghchi: Misreading by U.S. President Undermines Iran’s Conditional De-escalation
Tehran - BORNA - On the social media platform X, Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote: “Dr. Pezeshkian, our President, had declared readiness to ease regional tensions, provided that the airspace, soil, and waters of our neighbors are not used to attack the Iranian people. However, this approach was almost immediately nullified due to President Trump’s misunderstanding of our capabilities, will, and intent.”
He added: “If Mr. Trump seeks to escalate tensions, he is pursuing exactly what our powerful armed forces have long prepared for—and he will face the consequences. Any escalation in Iran’s defensive actions will be the direct responsibility of the U.S. administration.”
Araghchi also stressed: “Mr. Trump’s one-week adventurism has already cost the U.S. military $100 billion, in addition to the lives of young soldiers. With markets reopening, these costs will rise sharply, ultimately affecting ordinary American citizens, especially at fuel stations.”
He further noted that the U.S. National Intelligence Council, summarizing assessments from 18 U.S. intelligence agencies, concluded that a war against Iran would inevitably fail. “I warned Mr. Trump’s envoys that war would not strengthen their bargaining position—were these warnings conveyed to him?” he asked.
Araghchi said the American public had voted to end costly Middle Eastern conflicts, but now faces an administration allegedly manipulated by Netanyahu to fight on Israel’s behalf.
He described the conflict as a “chosen war pursued by a small circle of ‘Israel-firsters,’” adding that “‘Israel first’ always means ‘America last.’”
