IRGC Spokesman Denies U.S. Claim of Escorting Oil Tanker Through Strait of Hormuz
Tehran - BORNA - Ali Mohammad Naeini, spokesperson for the IRGC, dismissed the claim and said any movement by U.S. forces and their allies would face Iran’s military capabilities.
“The claim that an oil tanker passed through the Strait of Hormuz under escort of the terrorist U.S. army is absolutely false,” Naeini said.
He added that any movement of American naval forces and their allies would be halted by Iran’s missile and drone capabilities.
“Any movement by U.S. fleets and their allies will be stopped within the range of our missiles and drones,” he said.
The IRGC spokesperson also stressed that U.S. naval vessels have avoided approaching the region during the current conflict.
“None of the U.S. naval vessels have dared to approach even the Gulf of Oman, the Persian Gulf, or the Strait of Hormuz throughout the war,” he stated.
The remarks came after Chris Wright, the U.S. Secretary of Energy, posted a message on the social media platform X claiming that the United States Navy had successfully escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz.
In the post, he said Washington had managed to pass an oil tanker through the strategic waterway. However, the post was later deleted.
Analysts say the Donald Trump administration is facing increasing pressure over rising global energy prices amid the ongoing conflict, which Iran describes as an illegal war launched by the United States and Israel.
According to these assessments, Washington has sought to influence oil markets and prevent further price spikes through statements portraying maritime routes as secure, a move critics say includes issuing misleading claims intended to calm global markets.
