Four-Way Talks Begin in Islamabad to Address War Developments, Advance Mediation Efforts
Tehran - BORNA - Pakistan is hosting consultations today to address regional tensions sparked by U.S.–Israeli attacks on Iran since February 27. This marks the second aggression against Iranian territory since June.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry had earlier announced that Faisal bin Farhan, the kingdom’s Foreign Minister, arrived in Islamabad to participate in a joint meeting with the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt to explore ways to de-escalate tensions and strengthen regional stability through diplomatic channels.
According to the ministry, bin Farhan held talks with Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister. As reported by Al Arabiya, the Saudi foreign minister discussed joint diplomatic efforts regarding regional developments with his Pakistani counterpart.
Earlier, Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s Foreign Minister, also met with his Pakistani counterpart within the framework of the meeting focused on reducing regional tensions. The Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah reported that Fidan discussed the ongoing war in the region with the Pakistani foreign minister.
Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, has also joined the talks in Pakistan. The four-party discussions, aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the region, are set to continue today and Monday.
Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, announced that as part of preparations for the meeting, he held a lengthy phone conversation lasting more than an hour with Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sharif wrote: “Once again, I strongly condemned Israel’s continued attacks on Iran, including its recent strikes on civilian infrastructure, and expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the brave people of Iran.”
