U.S. lawmakers reacted strongly to President Donald Trump’s speech on the war with Iran, with Democrats and even some former supporters describing it as an “absolute disaster,” “unplanned,” and “detached from reality,” while calling for an immediate end to the war.

Tehran - BORNA - American legislators responded to Trump’s remarks on the situation in Iran, with Democrats and some former allies criticizing the speech and questioning his war-driven policies.

Democrats said the president’s address failed to answer key questions from the American public.

Democratic Senator Mark Warner stated that the U.S. president must provide clearer answers to the public about a war that has led to rising gasoline prices as well as increases in diesel fuel, fertilizer, aluminum, and other essential goods. He warned that the consequences of these price hikes would remain in the economy for a long time.

Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said the speech was based on a reality that exists only in Donald Trump’s mind.

Another Democratic senator, Richard Blumenthal, said Trump had no real plan for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ignored the devastating impact of rising energy prices on American consumers.

Chris Coons, also a Democratic senator, wrote on X that there was no clear plan in Trump’s remarks, describing them as scattered and uncoordinated.

Democratic Senator Andy Kim also criticized the president’s performance, calling it “an absolute disaster.” He wrote on social media: “He keeps telling us the war is about to end, but that’s just a lie. Trump must end this.”

Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen joined the criticism, saying: “This man is dangerous for the country and the world.”

At the same time, Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican and former House member, said: “The only thing I heard from his speech today was: war, war, war.”

However, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Trump’s speech clarified Washington’s objectives in Iran.

The speech comes as recent polls show that 54% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the war, while only 25% support the war with Iran.

As the midterm elections (November 2026) approach, pressure on the Trump administration to end the war quickly has increased.

Gasoline prices in the United States have risen by more than 30% since the start of the war on February 28. The Pentagon has requested a $200 billion budget to continue the war. Rising oil prices have fueled inflation in the U.S. and had a direct impact on the cost of living.
