UNSC Anti-Iran Move Defeated as Russia and China Veto Bahraini Draft
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) late Tuesday witnessed the failure of a Bahraini-drafted resolution aimed at challenging Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, as Russia and China blocked the move with their vetoes.

Tehran - BORNA - A diplomatic campaign led by Bahrain to challenge Iran’s maritime authority in the Strait of Hormuz ended in failure at the United Nations Security Council late Tuesday, after Russia and China blocked the move with their veto power.

The defeated resolution sought to pave the way for foreign military intervention in the strategic waterway under the guise of "ensuring navigation safety." The move comes as Tehran has asserted its sovereign right to regulate traffic in the strait following a series of illegal aggressions by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iranian territory.

According to the finalized draft, the resolution "strongly urged" countries using the Strait of Hormuz to coordinate "defensive efforts," a phrase interpreted by observers as a thinly veiled attempt to legitimize a military coalition against Iran. A more aggressive earlier version had even proposed authorizing member states to use "all necessary defensive means" for a six-month period. Despite these desperate revisions aimed at securing a pass, the draft failed to survive the session.

The current maritime standoff is a direct consequence of the U.S.-Zionist escalation in the region. Since February 28, 2026, the two regimes have repeatedly violated Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity through illegal strikes. In a firm retaliatory measure, the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that all vessel traffic through the waterway—which lies adjacent to Iran's coastline—must be strictly coordinated with Iranian authorities.

Tehran has explicitly prohibited the passage of vessels affiliated with the U.S., the Zionist regime, and their allies. This strategic blockade has sent unprecedented shocks through global energy markets and stock exchanges, significantly driving up household costs in European nations and elsewhere.

The collapse of the Bahraini-led resolution at the Security Council underscores the international community's realization that regional security cannot be achieved through coercive measures and that Iran's sovereign rights over its territorial waters remain a non-negotiable red line.
