Araghchi to French Counterpart: Ceasefire in Lebanon ‘Inseparable’ from Regional Truce
Tehran - BORNA - Araghchi held a telephone conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Thursday to discuss the fragile two-week truce and the escalating situation in Lebanon. During the call, the top Iranian diplomat detailed the recent military aggression by the U.S. and the Zionist regime against Iran, which led to the temporary ceasefire mediated by Pakistan.
"Unfortunately, we are witnessing a severe violation of the ceasefire and continued strikes by the Israeli regime against Lebanon," Araghchi stated. He emphasized that the Pakistani mediator has explicitly reinforced that the cessation of attacks across the region—specifically in Lebanon—is a core pillar of the diplomatic understanding. Araghchi stressed that the international community, particularly European countries, must take a "serious and decisive" stance to stop the aggression, warning that the continuation of these attacks threatens the sustainability of the broader peace process scheduled to begin in Islamabad.
For his part, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot welcomed the cessation of the war between Iran and the U.S., expressing hope that progress in the upcoming negotiations would lead to "lasting stability" across the Middle East. Barrot also echoed the necessity of halting Israeli military operations against Lebanon to preserve the current diplomatic momentum. The dialogue comes as Tehran maintains that its "fingers remain on the trigger" should the ceasefire continue to be undermined by further provocations.
