UAE to Withdraw from OPEC and OPEC+
Tehran - BORNA - The stunning departure of the UAE—a long-standing member of the organization—threatens to cause disarray and weaken the group, which has historically sought to present a united front despite internal friction over geopolitics and production quotas.
Oil producers within OPEC have already been struggling with export challenges through the Strait of Hormuz due to the security situation following the U.S.-Zionist aggression against Iran.
However, the UAE’s exit represents a significant victory for U.S. President Donald Trump, who has frequently accused the organization of "ripping off" the rest of the world by driving up oil prices.
As reported by Reuters, Trump has previously linked U.S. military support for the Gulf to oil prices, arguing that while the United States defends OPEC members, they take advantage of that protection by imposing high energy costs.
This move follows recent criticism from the UAE—a key regional trade hub and one of Washington’s most important allies—directed at other Arab nations.
Abu Dhabi has reportedly expressed frustration over what it views as insufficient measures by its neighbors to protect the country from Iran’s responses to U.S.-Zionist aggression during the ongoing conflict.
