Pezeshkian: Iran Seeks to Resolve Nuclear Issue Through Diplomacy
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that the Islamic Republic is committed to resolving outstanding issues, including the nuclear file, through dialogue and diplomatic channels. He also urged international organizations, especially the United Nations, to take stronger and more practical action against the crimes and provocations of the Zionist regime in the region.

Tehran - BORNA - Pezeshkian made the remarks on Monday, September 1, during his meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in China. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always sought peace and stability, while it was the Zionist regime that imposed war on us,” he said, thanking Guterres for his positions regarding the regime’s crimes against Palestinians in Gaza and its recent aggression against Iran.

The President also called on Guterres to adopt clearer and firmer stances in condemning the regime’s atrocities against Palestinians and other nations in the region. “We expect international organizations, particularly the United Nations, to take serious and concrete measures in response to the crimes and warmongering of the Zionist regime,” he underlined.

Pezeshkian highlighted that Iran came under attack by Israel while it was in the midst of negotiations with the United States. “Since the very beginning of the Islamic Republic, Iran has been one of the main victims of terrorism. Many of our senior officials have been assassinated in terrorist attacks. Today, the Zionist regime assassinates whoever it wishes in the region, under the pretext of self-defense,” he added.

Criticizing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its director-general, the President said: “Iran has been subject to the strictest and most frequent inspection regime in IAEA history, yet the Agency has not even condemned Israel’s attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, which were fully under its supervision. This is a blatant violation of international norms, and the Agency continues to avoid condemning it.”

Referring to Iran’s parliamentary law suspending cooperation with the IAEA in response to the director-general’s untrustworthy actions, Pezeshkian noted that the Supreme National Security Council has been entrusted with determining the scope and quality of Iran’s cooperation with the Agency. “Despite everything, the Islamic Republic of Iran still seeks constructive engagement and to resolve issues through diplomacy,” he emphasized.

For his part, Secretary-General Guterres stated: “I am personally convinced that Iran is not seeking to build nuclear weapons and that its nuclear program is peaceful. I recognize your right to a peaceful nuclear program.” He also expressed concern over the possible activation of the snapback mechanism and said he had raised this issue in his contacts with European parties to the JCPOA, urging them to cooperate with Iran.
