Araghchi: Cairo Understanding Officially Considered Terminated
Tehran - BORNA - Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, reacted to the illegal and unwarranted action by the three European countries and the US in presenting an anti-Iran resolution to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, which was adopted under pressure from these four countries despite 15 members voting against or abstaining. He said: "By this action, and by disregarding Iran's interactions and goodwill, these countries have damaged the credibility and independence of the Agency and disrupted the process of interactions and cooperation between the Agency and Iran."
Araghchi added: "Although the Cairo Understanding effectively no longer served as a basis for Iran-Agency relations in the safeguards area after the illegal action by the three European countries in the UN Security Council to reintroduce the revoked Security Council resolutions, today, an official letter was sent to the IAEA Director General declaring that this understanding is no longer valid and is considered terminated."
