Medvedev Issues Nuclear Warning Over Ukraine
Tehran - BORNA - Dmitry Medvedev said, in response to a question about reports alleging efforts by London and Paris to provide nuclear weapons to Ukraine, that Russian foreign intelligence information regarding the alleged intention of France and the UK to transfer nuclear technologies to Kyiv “fundamentally changes the situation.”
“This is not merely about the destruction of the non-proliferation regime or other aspects of international law,” he stated.
Medvedev, who previously served as both president and prime minister of Russia, added: “This would amount to the direct transfer of nuclear weapons to a country at war… There is no doubt that under such a development, Russia would be compelled to use all available means, including non-strategic nuclear weapons, against targets in Ukraine that pose a threat to our country.”
Speaking to the news agency Russia Today, he further stressed that, if necessary, Russia would also respond against supplier countries “that become complicit in a nuclear conflict with Russia.” He described this as a symmetrical response that the Russian Federation reserves the right to undertake.
